TERRE DES LIONS
A Paris resident, Laurent Baheux keeps his work strictly black and white, as a stylistic statement in itself, bearing silent witness to the underlying philosophy. The photographs were taken with a digital Canon Eos in southern Kenya, in the Masai Mara Reserve – a natural extension of the Serengeti and a popular game preserve. Baheux is of the opinion that color would only complicate the “reading” of his complicated compositions. The photographer calls his work "Country of Lions" – elegant photographs of animals captured in moments of powerful hunting as well as dignified poses of rest. Laurent Baheux has worked since 1994 as a sports journalist, since 1998 as a sports photographer. Laurent came through a self-taught approach to photography like to a religion; his passion quickly became however a profession and has not left him since. In 2003 he founded the agency Photovision that follows the most important sports events of the year. Among his favorites among sports are judo, tennis, and rugby. Since 2002 Baheux has traveled regularly to Africa. His adventures among wild animals have brought him to Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, and Namibia. “The Country of Lions” is the beginning of a work-in-progress; additional trips are planned.
